Counselling
Sometimes problems can get on top of us and we feel that we need help to talk through them. 'Young Persons Advisory Service' (YPAS) offers free and confidential counselling. We try to create a warm and comfortable environment and our counselling rooms reflect this.
YPAS offers counselling on a one to one basis , giving young people the time and space to talk about whatever they need. We address the needs of all individuals by offering various counselling approaches; person-centred, psycho-dynamic and integrated.
We have two full-time and one part-time counsellors for 10 - 15 year olds, two counsellors for 13 -19 year olds (provided through the Youth Service), and two counsellors for 16 - 25 year olds.
YPAS is a member of the British Association of Counsellors (BAC), counsellors adhere to the BAC code of ethics and good practice guidelines. All of YPAS counsellors are fully qualified to diploma level or working towards diploma level. They have a wide range of experiences and are constantly working towards their own personal development.
You can access YPAS counselling services by ringing us or popping in to make an appointment. You could also ask a friend, social worker or teacher to help you make the appointment. But you must want to come along and talk, not just come because someone else thinks it might be a good idea.
Your counselling session will last no longer than one hour, and you will probably attend once a week. It is up to you (in discussion with your counsellor) when you feel you no longer need the counselling sessions (e.g. after one session, after 6 sessions or longer); these sessions are unlimited. You will see the same counsellor for every session.
YPAS counselling services are available from Monday to Thursday- 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and 10.00 am to 3.00 pm on Fridays. YPAS holds evening counselling sessions on a Monday and Wednesday from 5.00 - 8.00 p.m.
YPAS does not offer telephone counselling.
Counsellors offer the highest possible levels of confidentiality in order to respect the client's privacy and create the trust necessary for counselling.
For further information visit the YPAS web site or give them a ring on 0151 707 1025.
